passion and purpose

Artist Statement

As long as I can remember, I have known who I am through the lens of dance. Dance has given me a passion, but choreography gives me a purpose. I create narrative and emotionally driven choreographic works that have a focus on connection with other artists and intended audiences. Dance has the power to express what words sometimes cannot, and those are the stories I aspire to tell through movement. I enjoy working in a number of mediums when creating choreography. This may consist of bringing multiple genres of dance into one work, or manipulating a light and soundscape to create a narrative where the audience can feel present. With everything I create, I aim to spark ideas, invoke emotion, or even provide a space to look at something with a new perspective. I do this using methodology I have learned from a Brain Compatible approach with the University of Tampa Dance Program, as well as with a contemporary fusion background I learned with the Boston Community Dance Project. My choreographic work is centered around connecting viewers to the story onstage, and for the performers to find their version of the story within themselves. Additionally, I use the choreographic process to push boundaries, explore and share my experiences with those around me. As I continue to create choreographic work, I hope to get to know myself as not just a dancer but a creator, and I hope to create work that leaves a lasting impression in its wake.
